The next stop on our tour was the Golden Pavilion. The temple is said to house relics of Buddha, namely a tiny buddha that a fisherman found that is 2 1/2 inches tall. The public is not allowed to view the the tiny buddha. This building was once the shogun's weekend retreat. It also housed several of his concubines. The shogun had 20 children. It was important to have many children to insure a male heir that would survive into adulthood. The gardens were magnificent here. No matter where I've been in Japan, it is very crowded. Here's a few pictures of the Golden Pavilion.
